Girls getaway in KL

For New Year's, the girls that I used to dance with had a short getaway at an Airbnb that we rented in Ampang.

Arrived on the 30th and we went to KLCC for dinner that night at Yuzu.

This is the second time I have visited this outlet at KLCC and both times it wasn't good. But the one at the Gardens is superb~! Not sure why there's such a huge difference in the food served when it's the same  franchise.

The 3 of us ordered the same chirashi don and some of the fish weren't very fresh.....and that crab stick was the worst!

After that we shopped around and took some pictures at KLCC Park.

At night, we played games and chit chatted about love and life in general~

On New Year's Eve, we went to Din Tai Fung in Pavillion for brunch.

Pork fried rice

First time having fried rice and while I've heard many good reviews about the fried rice here, I thought that it was just normal. One can easily get good fried rice round KL.

We went for a swim at the condo's pool late in the afternoon and ordered Domino's Pizza for dinner as we did not want to be stuck in a jam.

Pizza's are so cheap back home but so expensive in Japan. Why?

Domino's the best! While it is kind of oily, I enjoyed their new puff pastry base pizza.

That night we caught the fireworks from KLCC and KL Tower from the rooftop of the condo. It's the first time I saw fireworks from KL and it was beautiful~ :)

YL and I went to the Gardens for Nyonya food at Nyonya Colours.

I miss the fragrant santan rice with sambal, ikan bilis and rendang chicken.

After that, we went for desserts at cousin's friend's place and ordered this yuzu chocolate cake and another coconut dessert.

While the flavour was interesting, I didn't really enjoy the consistency of the chocolate cream on top. But the base at the bottom was really good! Meanwhile, the coconut dessert.....that's sherbet or whatever it is on top was too hard! We had to poke it really hard with the fork before we could cut it!

The beautiful choux pastry were free for YL and they were delicious. I especially like the green tea one.

On the way back, we passed by this cake shop that sell cakes that look like a whole durian fruit!

Lol......doesn't it look like the real thing? I wonder how's the taste.

Banana Leaf Rice

First time meeting up with Tham's cute little baby boy~ <3 so handsome!!

More than 10 years ago, we were Uni mates and now so much have changed! I guess in the future, our 4 person dinner outings will have to be changed to 5.

Tham brought us to this place in KL that she frequents for banana leaf rice.

Here, I am trying to "tarik" or pull Tham's teh tarik for her....

Our briyani came looking like this. Look at the amount of rice!

I only took out a 1/3 of the portion onto the banana leaf here.

The food was super food. The briyani was super flavourful and the chicken was well cooked. All the side dishes were delicious too~!!

Good food + good friends = best thing in the world~!

After shopping around the mall, we went for cendol dessert! While this is not as good as the one from Ipoh, this will have to do for now. Next time, I will go to Ipoh for some!

Growing up in a country where all kinds of fruits are available all year round at a reasonable price, I really took good fruits for granted. Miss having the luxury of getting fresh juices such as this orange and passion fruit drink anytime I want.

Red dragon fruit! I prefer the red ones to the white ones and I have never seen the red ones here even though it's sooo common back home! It's so much sweeter than the white one and the colour is pretty.

I miss water cress too as they're not available here or if they are, I've not seen them. I miss this water cress soup. Now that I have a slow cooker, I wish that they sell this in the supermarket so that I can make some soup for myself.

Hokkien noodles from the hawker stall near m house. Miss the convenience of getting any street food favourites easily.

This here is a MUST try.....SS15 rojak~!! Super good! and the queue is also super long. Absolutely love the peanut sauce. 

Keropok as appetisers before a meal? While not the healthiest thing, it sure is fun to chew on while chatting with friends.

Another veg that's not available here, a mountain veg called paku....best cooked with belacan, but it's good like this too....spicy, sour and refreshing.
