Food science

Yea......such a perfect course for someone like me...who likes science and loves food!! haaha.....but I'm like 5 years too late for it!

Look at these cute little bubbles.....don't you just wanna put one in your mouth??? Don't they remind you of chewy little bubbles or those popping balls that pops in our mouth??

Well it's exactly that....but unfortunately, the one above is inedible because of the sodium chloride we used. But the gum powder used is totally edible.

Just a trial done by my supervisor for the carnival next month.

hm...a syringe??

heehe.......

With supervisors at Italiannies

Few of us decided to treat out supervisors for lunch on Monday (26/05/09). We finally handed in the final hard bound version of our thesis, with gold blocks!!! haaha....it's sooo pretty, I wanted to keep a copy for myself too!!!

It's d 1st time I drove from uni to 1U....following behing CW's car. That guy drives SOO FAST!!! The speed limit was 80km/h and he drove at nearly 110km/h!!!

Hello~ I don't wanna get a speeding ticket ok!!!! Already told him, I have bad driving skills.....and he still drove sooo fast! Kek sei ngo~

I had a speed racer in my car but she's not driving!!!

We initially planned to go to Shogun but we weren't able to make any reservations. Oh well....at least the food at Italiannes was great!!! I will definitely revisit the place! There are many eateries here.....but not all are worth a 2nd visit.

We ordered many yummylicious food...but but but no pictures!!! WAH!!! because we were too embarassed to take pics of food in front of the supervisors!!! haaha.....

yummy pastas......delicious pizzas.....refreshing pink strawberry drink......cheesy cakes......to-die-for tiramisu........*scratches monitor* yum-yum~

Few of us who were there with Dr.T and Dr.K.

5 out of the 9 under Dr.T, 4 biomedics and 1 biotech!
A fun day out with these nice ppl....hopefully, we'll all keep in touch!

I haven't played pool and bowling in a long time....that I've becomes super rusty!!!! I scored 70 for d 1st game n then 50 for d 2nd game!!!! AAHHHH!!! *hides face* Wahh~~ other ppl had strikes and spares and me??? all masuk longkang!!! :(
HW....why are you hiding behind there???

27/12/08

I've seriously been neglecting my blog recently.....I've only made 1 post per week!!!

I think SL & I will be ending our fyp soon since we've already done all the necessary biochemical tests.

We still have the TLC and bioautography but we need 3 consecutive days for that, which is what we don't have now!!!! It's not that we're lazy, but there's just too many public holidays this year end and labs are closed on public holidays. Thus, we were unable to get 3 consecutive days to run it.

Plus we've never done autobiography before, we'll just be testing it out even if we run it. Hopefully we'll get good results.

haaa.........if I'm not mistaken, the last day for lab work is on 8th January 2009.

~~~~~~~~~
.
The X'mas deco this year at major shopping centres were lovely this year. 1U had this "Alice in Wonderland" theme! while Pyramid even built in a mini-ferris wheel!
.
Love X'mas every year~
.
In the west, people celebrate this special day with their family.......
.
Right here in Malaysia, most people celebrate with their friends, especially youngsters. There were sooo many people out on the streets along Pyramid that I could hardly move around or walk out of the place!!!!
.
Plus there's jam everywhere because people are trying to get to different places for countdown after dinner.
.
Then you see people selling cans which sprays out fake snow.......and you realise that the car next to you IS covered with fake snow!!! poor car!~
.
Yea, then you see people walking all around the place wearing santa's signature hat. It was then that I realised that I forgot to wear MY OWN!!! haiya~ left it at home!
.
Didn't get to eat any turkey this year. Although I've never really like turkey as I find it's meat quite tasteless and tougher than chicken but I like the sauces. Plus, it makes X'mas much more special! haaha.....
.
Anyways, MERRY BELATED X'MAS everyone!!!
.
~~~~~~~~~~
.
Oh....and I forgot to mention where I had dinner on X'mas eve!!!
.
Yo~~~ X'mas ever is seriously a bad day to eat out!!!
.
It was sooo HORRIBLE!!!
.
I had to queue to get into the restaurant and I even had to queue to pay!!!
.
Anyways, ate at Sakae Sushi which I thought was not bad after several visits there. But on X'mas eve.....it was BAD!!!
.
Ordered some food.......which took forever to arrive!!!
.
Some didn't even make it to our table!
.
We wanted to order something else but we didn't dare to because we still got orders that never came!!!!
.
After 30mins, we called the waiter to check on it.........no reply.
.
We can't even leave early because we kept waiting for the food!!!! Our dinner like dragged for so long that the table behind us who came in later had finished their dinner and left!!!
.
After 45mins, called another waiter to check on it..........no reply!
.
After more than 1 hour, called another waiter........and he said that if we still want it, WE STILL HAVE TO WAIT!!!!
.
The waiting time was seriously longer than the eating time.
.
Plus the food tasted horrible......the sushi from the conveyor belt were warm from the lights and おいしきなかった!!!(not delicious at all).
.
Plus they served us food on a dirty plate!! The pink plate was covered with black marks......not appetising at all!
.
Oh...and I never had a crepe style sushi which cracked open!! You know, how a sushi's supposed to be round as a whole? Have you ever taken one which is broken???
.
Plus Sakae sushi had this special promo makis for X'mas and New Years with really auspicious names.....meant for good fortune or something like that. Tried one and it's really not worth your money!!!! Nothing special at all!!! You are paying extra for the names and not for the quality of food!
.
The manager very nicely offered 10% discount due to the poor service!!! However, they extra charged us RM10 for a dish we never had!!!! That equals to a BIG FAT O discount and we PAID EXTRA!!!!
.
But it was also careless of me because we rushed out of the place immediately after we paid and I didn't had time to check the bill till I reached home.
.
I'm a very disappointed customer who is STILL feeling unsatisfied with the service I got. Plus I don't get why do I have to pay the service charge when I never really got any service at all!!!
.
After that night, I swore I'm never going back to Sakae Sushi again......
.
and yes, good food is THAT important to me!!!
.
~~~~~~~~~~
.
Went to Zanmai with the leng luis from dance class today.......for HL's farewell party!!!
.
HL's the Queen of Freestyle in my class and she's the only girl who can really do Krump style and make it look good!
.
All the best to HL who will be continuing her studies in Sydney!!! We'll miss her and of course, miss seeing her dance. Every single person who've seen her do krumping have been super impressed by her.
.
Turns out that there's a double farewell party today as SM will also be quiting hiphop class as she wants to concentrate on poppin.
.
It was really weird because I had a dream of SM last night........In my dream, we were at UG....getting ready for animation class but PM still haven't arrived yet.......and SM was like calling her.....and I couldn't remember the rest!!
.
I only remembered about the dream when SM mentioned that she wanted to take animation classes!
.
Sooo....weird~ am I having some weird powers??? haahaa.....
.
lol.....this is all because starting next February, there'll be 3 branches to poppin' - Foundation, Boogaloo and Animation. I'm still not sure which one to pick....but since my foundation is like sooo.....cacat!!! I might not be able to catch up in boogaloo or animation classes....haaha.....but animation seems interesting!!!
.
As for hip hop....there are also many branches now. I'm currently doing new style~ and Z has been making us do battles for the past 2 weeks including today.
.
Today....I got to watch!!!!! and not battle at all~ haaha.... Z said, "kamu duduk di sini!" while all the gals were separated into 2 groups and battled!
.
Sooo amazing!!!! I love watching battles!!! Really good battles! Everyone has their own signature moves. They were so good, they make me wanna dance too!
.
It's sad that from now on.....there'll only be the 6 of us left in class.....oh, and 1 more boy!
22/12/08
tired~
This FYP period is super tiring!!
Felt like a zombie last week.....had soooo many things to do.....
On Friday, we had soo much to work with that even by 5.30pm we couldn't complete everything we intended to do. Thus we had to pack up and bring them home!
I brought sooo many samples home that I had to make 3 rounds between the lab and my car!
Since I had poppin' on Fri night, I was only able to do my Ab susceptibility test after class and I worked on them till 1.30am in my living room!!!!
My dad must've thought I was crazy....haaha.....I set up a small little area in the living room, placed my samples, agar, bunsen burner, ethanol spray.........my god~ I can't even believe I snucked all these out of the lab! shhh......~~
Then I went shoppin with the gals at 1U on sat.....so wasn't able to work on my stuffs again......plus I had hip-hop. Reached home, started work asap......and worked till 10+ before I showered and had dinner! *sniff*
I'm starting to feel like a mad scientist................working at weird hours in the night! Less the fact that I don't have my own secret lab in the non-existence basement at home!
Plus my bacillus babies stinks.....omg~~~ and I had to sit in front of the bunsen with no fan~~~*hot*!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
I was hoping so much that we could finish up everything within 1 week, so that we could rest at least 1 week before the new semester starts........which I'm sure we'll all be super busy!!!!
I had a sneak preview of the timetable and gosh~~~ I have classes till 6pm again!!!! *faints*
Worst still.......this morning the sea-witch told me that the latest class ends at 6.30pm!!!! Really? *double faint*
Then for group 2 students, all our tutorials fall on Monday!!! I guess they want us to stay home......and study hard on weekends!!!
Next semester, I'll be having Virology, Pharmacology, Oncology, Nuclear Medicine and what's the other one???? hm....I thought someone said, we'll be having Genomics......haaaa.....
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
hmm.....since many of the students will be moving to Kampar next semester, I wonder if there'll still be many students applying for the parking sticker????
I think most of the new intakes will only be engineering students since all the new intake for biosciences courses will commence in Kampar.
*prays that I get the sticker.....pretty please~~~ since it's my last sem*
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
I read somewhere once that we'll be having a Faculty of Medicine sometime in future.....but I didn't know it'll be this quick!
Sea-witch's dad called her today to tell her that he saw that they're offering medic course in the papers?? and asked if she wanted to transfer or something??
.
So fast???? I wonder is that's a 6 year course??? In Kampar???
.
I don't know....haven't read today's paper yet!
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
I've always wanted to visit the Kampar campus ever since I saw beautiful pictures of the lake and zen like gardens.
SL aka CharSiewPau mentioned that there'll be bus rides from my campus to the Kampar campus for only RM7!!!!
Sooo cheap!!!! Soooo much cheaper than normal bus fares outside!!!! Students can even travel back home daily man!
It's even cheaper than my travelling expenses.......and I like in KL!!!!
This is sooo unfair!!!!
Ppl living in another state can reach home at a much cheaper price than a person living in same state as the campus!!!
13/12/08
wheee.....finally got time to blog!!!!
Been dying to blog about several things...haahaa......but just never had the time.
Yup...have been pretty busy the past week.....
Oh...and oh.....yes! I've been dying to blog about my unexpected visitor who came totally unexpectedly!!! And I will dedicate my next blog post to him....with pictures included!!!
What have I been up to??? that I was too busy to blog about this cute unexpected visitor???
1) On the way to KLIA on Sat morning, at around 1.30am, I saw this car on the other side of the road stopped right after the toll and there's this woman lying next to the car. At first I thought the car knocked her but at a closer look, it seems like she was a passenger and just needed to get some fresh air.
On the way back, at about 3.30 am, 2 hours later, there were police at the site, so I quickly turned to look at the place where the woman was lying......and the police had already cover her up!!
I was sooo shocked! I wonder what happened! 2 hours is plenty of time for an ambulance to arrive esp. during wee hours....or maybe no one called for one.
2) We celebrated Siew Mun's 22nd Birthday last Sat! No pics at the moment, had to get them from PM.
3) My japanese exam was last sunday.....and since I didn't study/ prepare for the exam at all, I was trying to cram in as much as I can the night before the exam!!! Sigh~ burning the mid night oil.....not something I normally do for normal exams.
Once again, the exam site was UPM, at their engineering faculty. And I was shocked to see mini planes in their faculty that I thought I was in the flight academy.
As usual, there were thousands of people taking the exam at the KL test site. For my level, there's slightly less than a thousand I think.
Right before the exam, I over heard some people next to me said they had no confidence and were afraid that they might fail.....Hoi~~~ I'm the one who should be super worried lo.....because I didn't even attend any formal classes for the past 3 years!!! My god! Made me feel even more worried!!!
1st paper was ok, but I did realise I made a stupid mistake for one of the kanji characters......Soooo stupidd~~~ it was like one of the very few kanjis I've ever learnt and I picked the wrong answer!
2nd paper was the listening paper and gosh! I just hope I did ok!
3rd paper was OMG!!!! Die ahhh!!!! This paper holds major marks!!! and I forgot to study literally everything required for this paper!!!! AAahhhh~~~ When I opened the paper, I was like....OMG!!! I forgot to study these!!!!
Sigh~ praying for the best!
4) I went and bought myself YAMA-PI with my parents on Monday!!!
Happy~~~~been wanting to get one for so long and FINALLY~~~ couldn't wait to get my hands on Yamapi!
No....it's not......him!
I wish!........but......
Tada- introducing my YAMA-Grand-PI!! Yamaha Portable Grand Piano DGX-230/ YPG-235! 76 soft touch key!!! haaa...lovely isn't it! Bought a stand and a sustainer pedal for it!
Though I initially wanted a 88 key one...but then it turns out the 76 key one was just nice for me! Plus there's so many functions on it! Now I can play back all the songs I love!
Pi looks good in stripes!!! haahaa.....
5) Lastly, lab work!! lol.....Jas, SL and I had sooo much work to do on Fri that we didn't manage to finish what we wanted to do and since the lab HAS to close at 5.30pm! We packed up and brought our things home!!! haahaa......
Tada... my casein hydrolysis and NaCl tests plates! in the store room, next to my YAMA-PI!
Lol....actually I finished my work. It's just that I didn't have enought time to observe the results for the NaCl ones so I had to bring them home. Then I had to observe the result for the casein hydrolysis after 48 hours and lab doesn't open on sundays......
It's only been 24hours and from this pic, I could see that the casein hydrolysis has begun.....so fast! I wonder if it's ok to look at my plates tomorrow morning.....I just showered and I'm going to bed soon!!! I don't wanna touch my 'babies'. Bad mother!
Omedetou to self~~~
I BURNED MY OWN 2 HANDS TODAY!!!!
AND BOY, WAS IT HOT!!!
Ok, don't mind me!
I SERIOUSLY BURNED MY OWN HANDS!!! AHHH~~~ AND IT WAS HOT AND PAINFUL!!!
Was busy working in the laminar flow with SL, to prepare our subcultures for the antibiotic tests tomorrow. And suddenly the ethanol sprayed tissue that I was holding with my right caught fire, but I had no clue it was on fire because the flame was blue( from the bunsen) and you don't see blue flames very well in a laminar air flow!
Also because I had sprayed my gloves with ethanol, the fire spreaded to my gloves instantly....but I still had ZERO/ NO clue! All I know was that the back of my right hand was feeling really warm.....as in HOT!!!
At that moment I was holding both a tissue and the cover of my petri dish......
Thus, flaming right hand + tissue + petri dish cover, brought close to left hand which was holding the petri dish! *SWHOSH* Both hands burning hot!!!!
Everything like occured in seconds, from the tissue cathing fire, spreading to my gloves and me immediately throwing the tissue and gloves away.
Quickly ran to wash my hands under the tap and *ouch* it hurts, once cold water splashes on the skin!
.....and the tissue was still happily burning away on the floor......Thanks to SL, who cleaned up after my mess!
And the lab officer had to be in the lab at that moment to see it!!! AAHHH~~~
Sooo...scary ah! The old me is already very afraid of bunsen burners. I always jump from my seat when someone next to me set their new burners on fire and when the fire goes *WHOSH* (Tall and huge burning red flame) Plus I don't know how to use a lighter!!!!
The new me is now....even more afraid of burners!!!
Have I ever mentioned that I had my own special lighter??? haaha....like the ones cigar smokers use??? Those without the black rolling wheel????? It's easier to operate....I just press, and green flames start coming out. haaha... Nice lighter! just that it's very heavy.
Stupid! I never knew it would be sooo hot when ethanol on your gloves caught fire!
I once laughed at SL because there's this once when her gloves caught fire and she started flapping her gloves away. I think I made a much bigger commotion because I was trying to pull the gloves out but I had to pull several times because it was hot! And I threw them onto the floor!
Eee....so scary, several of us had already experienced it~
~~~~~~~~~~
Yea, back to lab work! I'm so happy that I can finally take a few days off from the microscope after I've been using it non-stop, day after day, from morning till evening for the past 3 weeks! I'm glad that my babies are growing well! I hope my new cultures and test organisms grow well for tomorrow's antibiotic tests!

Thanks to all the stress from this FYP, people have been calling their bacteria samples all sort of names.

Like me, I call them my babies.....so productive man~ I initially had 100+ babies!!!

Then some like SL, like to treat them like dogs, by telling ppl that she'll get her bacillus to bite them!

And there's also those who call them their "zai-zai"!(aka son)

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last week, PM and the girls bought Oreo Cheese cake from Secret Recipe to celebrate my....belated bday. Yes it was very nice of them since my birthday was already over! Not my bday but I still got a bday cake! haaha.....yay~
Thanks-thanks to all the leng luis from my class!
I seriously think we're turning the dance studio to a Bday celebration place! We've like......celebrated 4 Bdays there in 2 months???
Yes, and I'm sure there's more to come!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Watched Astro battleground and saw J & T's group.........danger man! I thought they were gonna be kicked out! But thank goodness, they pulled through! All the best to the boys for the competition.

Also watched the Gatsby competition vids, some were quite interesting. Jealous~~~ because the winner gets to go Japan for the finals!!! and the overall champion gets some sort of dance scholarship!

It seems Z wanted to enter the gals from HH into a dance competition but I don't know how true is that.....it's now 20/11 and the competition is on....6/12????
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Bday to my dear mummy!!!!
:D
11/11/08
Didn't really had the mood to blog the past few days.....
1. was too tired...
2. my babies got a bit naughty....
3. too busy watching vids....
4. wrote my progress report...
Lab work has been busy and tiring....frustrating at times....but there's also lots of fun to it too!
You'll get frustrated when you do not get the results you want, or when results doesn't satisfies you.
But at the same time, you'll laugh at the little jokes or silly things you and your friends say/ do.
Some funny things happened in the lab....like the time when....
1. SL & I were using the laminar flow and I accidentally set the beaker of ethanol on fire!!! Yea~~ the flame was blue!! It was really beautiful~~ but it totally freaked me out!!
haaha....total accident! Threw my loop into the beaker of ethanol without realising that there's flame on it and *whoosh*.
My first reaction was....*pokes SL*, "Fire! *points at the beaker*"
haaha...I really should have put off the fire....first thing!!! but I didn't...haaha.....
2. Few days after, SL set her own gloves on fire while she was flaming her loop because she just sprayed ethanol on her gloves!
haaha....and she couldn't stop laughing because she kept remembering the incident where I asked her to look at the fire I've set. So she imagined herself, with her gloves on fire, calling out to me, "Mel, look! My gloves are on fire!"
Of course, she didn't la! haaha....she quickly took off her gloves and laughed like mad before telling what happened.
3. Turns out another guy at our bench also set his gloves on fire few days ago.....
4. Today, while I was busy doing my work and thinking about the next step.........I "steamed" my loop above a beaker of steaming water which I was using for my endospore stain, instead of "flaming" them with the blue flame.
When I realised it, I was like, "What was I doing/thinking man?"
5. SL was viewing her gram stains and thought, "Wow, the stains looks sooo beautiful today! Everything's gram positive~" After that she realised that it's because she just stained them with crystal violet only!!!! haahaa.....
There's also lots of happy moments during lunch time because we're always joking and eating out at different places.
I love this restaurant, Umeko which we went to on Mon. They serve western and taiwan/japanese cuisine.......pastas & shabu-shabu!
Seafood spag. Pic blurry, no thanks to camera person's poor skills...keke
The real thing looks much better.
Chicken Spag. Carbonara! Can you guess who ordered this? haaha....
Topped with an egg yolk~~ yummy!!! I love it~! Best carbonara I've had in Malaysia! Love the sauce~~~ Will definitely go back for more....
I see someone trying to steal someone's food.....
I personally think this place is more famous for their pasta and shabu-shabu.....
Lastly, Club sandwiches! Delicious! though I only stole a bite!
Can you see the fillings? The chicken's really juicy too! Totally worth your money!!!
Seriously taste better than the sandwiches you get at other cafes.
If you like pastas, I recommend Umeko, Wangsa Maju.
Will try their one of their salmon dishes next time I visit the place. Seems like they have a lot of different salmon dishes there.
Always tie my hair in a pony tail and clip my fringe to one side when I'm in the lab These 2 seems sooo serious man~
FYP
FYP star-to!
Hai~hai~ finished plating my soil samples and went back to uni today to check on them. Eventhough it's only been 2 days, I had to make sure my babies are growing well....
They're still....not growing very well, many of my babies aren't even visible yet...I hope they'll turn out ok eventually! I don't want to re-do it again. Plus it seems that something weird is growing on one of my plates! I hope the contamination isn't too great.
There's actually a lot to learn from this fyp, because we have to do everything single thing on our own and get ready everything we want to use by ourselves.
The lab I'm in stinks most of the time because of all the nutrient broth/agar/medium and also all the samples-soil/vegetation/squid and prawns.....and yes esp. the latter.
Was early one morning and wore my lab coat outside the lab when I smelled something stinky and I thought it's from my lab coat so I kept sniffing my lab coat and thought, "Gosh, where did this smell come from? I didn't do anything to my lab coat." I then took it off and headed towards the cafeteria.
Came back with Ursula and found out that she placed her samples outside the lab. Once in the lab....oooff...stinky!!! Then I realised it's not from lab coat but her samples! Squids and prawns.....allowed to rot? And everytime someone enters our lab, they'll be like, "Wahhh...this lab stinks ah?" or "Hhaa what's that smell? Where is it coming from?" haaha.....
Then at the back of the lab, it's a whole different smell again....where all the students are preparing their own different media. I really don't like the smell of all the media.....
Also, as you enter different labs eg. the autoclave room or whatever, you get different smells. All the toxicants we are inhaling......boohoo~
The thing is....when you're working in a lab, you're never short of SCENTS!
I guess it's the same too in a medical lab, esp urine.....
Plus, it's worst when you are not MADE for lab work, or MADE for latex gloves??? haaha.....
Once I took off my gloves on Monday.....numerous tiny red bumps that itch like mad and dries up the skin!!!
Got a huge shock on Fri right before poppin' class, as I was about to enter class, I suddenly saw red bumps on my hand and thought some insect bit me while I was seated on the red sofa!!!
Bad lighting, cannot really see the bumps here.
The good thing is that they diminish and become less itchy in 2 days.......the bad news is......I go back to the lab every 2 days!!!!
~~~~~~

Hiphop class is now separated into 3 different categories: Foundation, Girl's hiphop and New School??? I think it's called new school or is it the more advanced level??? for both boys and girls??? because you can't expect a guy to join girl's hiphop right? A bit confusing there.....but since Z said we can stay at out normal slot, which is the slot for New school......then ok lo. No need to chance time, which is good for me!

I don't mind to take either, as long as it's not foundation. Poppin' is already very technical for me. It seems there's not much improvement for me because I'm too lazy to prac.....I seriously never prac at home and I only dance in class......should I quit?

Hai~ spent 4 months of poppin' with several useless people. Then 4 months with a Pro, where I did learn more, but I guess I'm not a good freestyler.

I guess I cannot do very technical things because I really am very lazy, I need things which once you do it, can be remembered easily and is reproducible......haahaa......and not something which requires lots of practice. haaha......really BAD! gotta change this BAD attitude and thinking! or else, I'm never gonna go far~~~

~~~~~~~
Besides harming my skin, the gloves are also destroying my nails.....I painted my nails pink and now bits and pieces have already chipped off!
~~~~~~~

sigh......thesis! jobs!.......haa~~~~

FIGHT-O!!!-OH!!!!

hhhhhaaa.......

ok...I've been super tired lately....

The street party on Sun was great!! Lots of fun!!! and....I love beatbox!!! Ohh..yea, *does some weird sounds*

The dance workshop was.....didn't turn out how I expect it to. haaha....at the beginning we were asked to feel the music which I sooo didn't feel at all! Not my style of music la! We were asked to feel our feminine side........but how to feel my feminine side when the music is sooo calm and relaxing??? I need something with a bit more beat and playful. I suddenly felt like doing ballet which I don't know! Maybe I'm just not feminine enough!

Yea...learned a choreography which was quite different from normal hiphop class....love the booty shaking parts and hate the head flipping parts! I can flip my head/ make a 360degrees turn....but not do both together at one time while half squatting down!!! Everytime after I flip and turn, I forgot my steps! haahaha.....and I don't get why the choreography kept turning clockwise almost every 4-8 counts.

Then at night......was the street party, which was amazing! There were performances by the instructors, including those from the workshops, students and guest performances! I love the beatbox performance the most!!! <333

All the performances that night ware superb~! and the Bboy and poppin' battles....eye-poppin!!!! Everyone there is like super talented! "Dance" must run in their blood!

There were some new 'stars' that night! and there's this guy, who won the poppin' battle!! ahhh~~~ he's sooo good! he totally moves along with the flow of the music!

Yea, and my fav. perf of d night!!! The beatboxer has got powerful lungs for a small guy like him! Where does he learn to beatbox like that??!!! I was super high during his performance man!! <333>

Then there's also a Malaysian singer performing there that night. He was singing his song which I've never heard before but his interaction with the audience was really good! Really enjoyed myself and there's even some small part which we can sing along with him! Soo high man!! Everyone dancing and screaming!! Even better than a concert!

No pics/vids at the mo'......didn't use my camera, gotta wait for the others.

Talking about concerts....I didn't know Paran is coming to Malaysia for a concert in November. I wonder which stadium and how much are the tixs.

~~~~~~~
Was supposed to start my bench work by my fyp today but had to delay it because........
1. All these while I've been reading journals after journals on actinomycetes.
2. Tuesday went to meet up with the supervisor to show her my proposal....and she asked SL and I to work on Bacillus!!!!
3. *faints* We're supposedly gonna start work on Wed!!!!
4. Applied for apparatus and got 3 out of 21 only!!!
5. I have no idea how to use the autoclave machine!!!
6. I need petri dishes.....lots of it!!!!
7. I've been reading journals till now.......
8. Re-done my new proposal....
9. I'm ready to start work tomorrow......
...hopefully!!!
I'm worried!!! very worried!!! because we are very much on our own for our fyp....
starting from reading journals, coming up with the proposal and then now starting.......
I've never prepared my own agar before for my lab sessions......and now I've gotta prepare them myself.....soo many different types, so many recipes! *prays that everything goes smoothly from starting till completion*
I don't know how to autoclave!!! never touched the machine before!
I wonder if my steps are proper? and there's certain things I plan to do, which I'm not too sure of.
Well.....since I had my industrial training in a medical lab, I've not been exposed to researching on soil bact. A friend from another course also working on soil bact. have done all these during her industrial training so she knows a lot! how lucky~~~
Random pics
2 random pics.....
.
I'm now afraid to make long posts with pictures because of all the previous problems I've encountered with this new layout
.
.
Pic of me + poster my group did for the Toxicology Poster presentation
.
Self-camed! It's the best I could do to fit as much of the poster as I can into this pic...haaha
.
.
This is the drink I've been wanting to try since....like forever!!!! It's called "Mien Mien Bing" in chinese.
.
I first saw the stall selling these drinks when I went for lunch in WM.
.
Saw it again on TV when the Ho Chiak duo introduced this shop in their programme.
.
Got soooo tempted to try it! Plus since it's near my uni! but never had the chance.
.
When I finally got the chance to go, it didn't open!!! and I had to return 2 months later to try it!!
.
My long awaited drink!!!
.
Mango + Dragon fruit!!! 2 of my fav. fruits!!!
Ahhh...finally...the cool and refreshing drink!
It's not bad at all.....
On the same day that I tried it with Ursula and Jas during lunch......keke...right after class, we went back there again! to tapau some home!
And yes though I love mango and dragon fruit...I've found another combo which I love more!!
Lychee + Lime!!!!
Heavenly, just perfect on a hot day!!! which is like EVERYDAY!!!
03/08/08
It's a new month again! It seems to my that July just flew past.....
.
Initially, I thought that no semester could be worse that last sem. This is because we've been having mid-terms, tests and lab tests from wk 5/6 till wk14!
.
This semester, we'e been having mid-terms, tests and pop quizzes from wk4 till now....wk11, and it's still on going!
.
Besides that, gotta decided on a topic for my final year project & gotta write proposals. There's not much medical related topics, I think most of the topics relate more to Biotechnology. Also, there are students from Biotech, Biochem and Biomed fighting for the topics!
.
Initially I really wanted to do the AIDS topic but after hearing that someone else is really interested in it too and that they lecturer is only taking 1 student for that topic, I decided to pick others. Plus, I've found other more interesting topics after chatting with the lecturers.
.
At the mo' I've got my top 3 topics even though we're supposed to pick 6, but I think the most important one are the top 3 choices. I'm really hoping I get my top choice. Haven't filled up my form yet, because I still haven't made up my mind yet on which one to put as the 1st choice.
.
Got one proposal done and I'm still wondering if I should do another proposal for another topic....just in case....because certain topics are really HOT!!! yea, like SUPER HOT!!! .ahhhh......stress level building up!
.
Then I've got this Instrumentation lab report which I haven't done. I got sooo much problem in trying to plot the stupid histogram! The first time I tried, I spent 1 hour just to plot 1 histogram!!! and it's done using a software!!!! I always have no luck with these computer programs! We just don't click!
.
Then I spent like a few more hours to plot.....like 15 histograms eventhough we only need 6! I keep finding problems in them.
.
.
I'm starting to enjoy poppin' more tha hiphop though I love both. As long as I don't have to do complicated leg movements in poppin', I'm happy. We're now doing body rolls/waves.
.
Oh yeah! *swings her head to the left* Uh-huh! *swings her head to the right* and Wooh! my hair looks horrible! *fixes hair* Yea! *continues swinging again*
.
Yea, that's like my routine in class now...haaha.....swing, swing, swing and then suddenly I'll realised my hair looks super messy from all the flipping and swinging.
.
Then sometimes I swing too hard and felt like I'm loosing my balance.....
.
Plus I seem to have problem swinging from the left.....
.
~~~~~
.
Yesterday we had a 2 hour hiphop class and so I'm now.....super tired!! Muscles aching and worst of all...my head hurts!!!
.
Z taught us how to do cartwheels and er....how to roll on the floor???
.
It's soo hard!!! I've never done a cartwheel before in my entire life!! and now and this age!!! I have to learn how to do a cartwheel!
.
I'm a chicken! Super scared that I'm going to hurt myself. Never would I do anything like this if I were on my own.
.
But when you're in a class, your instructor is asking you to do it and everyone's doing it and I'm like.....”ahhh.....go!!!”
.
The first time I tried it, I ended up on the floor.
.
How do people keep their legs up and how to they finish standing???
.
Bravo! To those who can do it!
.
Z taught us to do the carthweel from one side and later asked us to do the reverse!!! I can't even do one properly and now I have to do the reverse.....super scared la! Cuz I'm like used to the other side already! And I looked like an idiot, just placed my hand on the floor and moved my legs!!! ahhhh....
.
But, comparing the cartwheel to the floor roll....the floor roll is worser. My poor head! Till now the top of my head hurts!!!
.
When Z first taught me, it's still ok, thought it's not exactly what he asked for.....at least, when you do it slowly and not get it right, I only hit different parts of my body on the floor....and of course it hurts!!! It hurts the most when you roll sideways accidentally and all your weight will be on one shoulder!
.
The most painful part is when you have to do it fast and Ok Go! And POP!! Ouch! You bang your head directly on the floor! And you're squatting down there but you have to finish it....but because of the knock on your head, you're now scared and you do it slowly...but you knock your head on the floor again anyways!!!
.
The knock on the head after you have rolled is not as pain as the one when you're about to roll and ready to throw your weight, and once you lift your legs....you're head hits the ground first and you can't roll over beccause you're in the wrong position.
.
I seriusly felt like crying after a few rolls....soo painful!
.
I now regret that I've never tried these when I was younger!!!
.
Had 3 guys out of the 12 of us yesterday and they could do it real fast! I think being a guy gives you an advantage because:
you probably would've tried it before
you're braver
not as scared as girls of physical pain
you just go!
.
Yea, but it's good la, at least I now know.....hopefully.....that in the near future....with practice........I can do a proper cartwheel! :D
.
I just pray that we don't have to do back flips!!!

FEStival

Typed this yesterday (04/06/08) but forgot to post it up.....

Btw, made a mistake in my las blog post regarding rise in petrol prices.....before the mark up it was 1.9 haaha...not 1.5. Thus my petrol price now increase to 81 or more! sniff~~~I'm now dreading my next pump!

Like wat XQ said, Life is not easy now~~~ sigh....and with the tise in electricity summore!!! omg!!!

When I first moved back, petrol in Brunei was a tinyyyy bit more expensive than over here and now it's so much more expensive over here!!!
~~~~
Today was F.E.Stival at my campus....
I really wanted to watch all the performances but too bad because I have class today and my schedule was quite packed.
Early in the morning, you can see all the club committee members busy setting up their booths at their designated areas. People were all busy doing something, be it setting up the sound system or the deco. It was a nice sight to see everyone in their respective club uniforms, working hard together. Even the outsiders: models, performers and make up artists also arrived early.
Didn't take many pictures because I only had 1 hour plus to explore the fair as I'm packed the whole day.
Jas, Tham , Ursula and I bought some coupons to share among ourselves. For every booklet of coupons, rm1 goes to charity. Plus there were lots of free magazines at the booth!
1st stall explored!....forgot was by which club because the only words that caught my attention was their sign board, "Secret Recipe: Dory!"
FRIED FISH!!!! yummy~~ sooo delicious! Only rm4
Can you see my lovely artwork on the fish slices??
Jujitsu club was selling oden. I first tried oden at 7/11 in Japan, ok ok la.....I wonder who came up with the idea here. But didn't try it though.
Next, we tried a game at ACS.....aiming tennis balls at a pyramid of cans. If we get 3 strikes, we get a pendrive!!! Unfortunately....haaha......Mel cannot aim at all! She said she needed space, everyone moved and she aimed! .......the tennis ball went right over the top of the cans! Thank you!
At least Jas and Tham both aim better!
2nd stall.....Ice kacang for rm2.50
Jas ordering the ice kacang for us!
Our ice kacang being prepared!
Ta-da!
Spotted a stall selling Dominos pizza right next to us.
When you look at surroundings........the roughly built tents, the trees and grass......it looks like we're at a camp site right??
Next was Career development club?? with this traditional chinese/ japanese game. I dunno what it's called. er...the one where kids catch fishes using a paper net?? which breaks easily???
Never tried it before.....a first for me! haaha....I always thought it's very hard. haaha
1st attempt, 3 nets.....made of tissue paper!!!
Me- 1
Jas- 1
Me- 1
These 3 poor fishes had to stay under the hot sun with me while I enjoyed the performances and even attend my lecture class with me.
2nd attempt after class
Me- 1
Ursula - 1
Tham- 0
Urusla- 0
Ursula- 1
Total = 6!!!
Ursula's hand
Ursula trying to catch the little fishes
Performace by a student who played the "er hu" to a Jay Chou's song, then violin version of a piece from the movie "Ratatouille"?? and lastly saxophone to......??? He really put on a good show! So talented man!!!!
Before this was a dance performance by the dance club, demonstration for Taekwondo and fashion show showing works of famous Malaysian designer Karl Ng.
Hai......the festival had just started and I had to leave for my class.....how unlucky!
Plus, how to concentrate when I know ppl are having fun nearby?? I can hear ppl singing but I have no idea who.
During my lab, I kept hearing ppl screaming and shouting....eeee....and I'm in the lab stuck with staining some bacterias!!! I missed all the great performances!!! I don't even know UG did perform. I know there were students from local U performing. Then there's hitz fm and their goodies, which I have no idea what because I was in class the whole time!
By the time my class ends, it's nearly the end of the performances and the booths are all getting ready to close! haaha.....
I just realised I forgot to take group pictures!!! or pics of my fishes!!!
