Making full use of our JR Pass, we took the train to Akita from Aomori.
Look at the nice and clean interior.
All the famous Akita motives decorates the station.
Namahage (生剥)
Kanto or Pole lantern
More Namahage.
Akita dog
By the time we arrived, it was time for lunch. We stopped by a famous udon chain restaurant in Akita - 佐藤養助 秋田店, for lunch.
J had the red curry udon for 1,320JPY.
I ordered the hot udon with tempura for 1,650JPY.
Their udon is unlike the typical thick ones. They are thinner and I actually like this version better. The food here was delicious. And I was surprised by how good J's red curry was.
Group picture!
Their udon and prepacked curry are available for sale at the shop. As the udon was super good, I bought a big pack back home. Very good and so convenient when I need some udon to my soup dishes.
From the station, we walked to our respective hotels to drop off our luggage. This Akita Museum of Art (秋田県立美術館) here is just our meet up point.
First stop was the Akarenga-kan Museum (秋田市立赤れんが郷土館), which is a local history museum that was once the opulent headquarters of Akita Bank.
You are free to explore the museum freely. There are various stands that explains about the displays in Japanese and English.
The interior is pretty grand has an European feel to it.
There is also an area for exhibiting Katsuhira Tokushi's work on the top floor.
While it was interesting to look at the interior and learn a bit about history. One can probably skip this is they are not a fan of history and is looking for something more interactive.
