After breakfast, we took the bus to Takamatsu Port as we wanted to explore the islands today.
I can imagine that this place must get a lot of tourists normally, if not for COVID-19.
There, we bought tickets for a boat ride to Naoshima (直島町).
We want to go to Naoshima because it is an island that is famous for art museums and Yayoi Kusama’s iconic pumpkin sculptures.
The one way ticket from Takamatsu Port to Miyanoura Port costs 1,220 JPY.
Once we have arrived at Miyanoura Port, we can see the famous red pumpkin.
Once there, we rented some electric bikes and started cycling uphill to the Chichu Art Museum.
I am glad that we got electric bikes because we had to cycle uphill tot he museum.
To our disappointment, the famous Chichu Art Museum is only available to those who had booked in advanced.
So we parked our bikes there and took the free bus to Benesse House (ベネッセハウス ミュージアム).
Benesse House is a fancy art museum with a hotel attached to it. There are restaurants and a museum shop there too. There are some interesting exhibits there. If you are interested in Art, this is a nice place to visit and even spend the night.
After exploring the museum, we walked to the Seaside Gallery.
From there, we walked along the road to find the Yellow Pumpkin.
When we were there, there was a couple taking their pre-wedding pictures.
As it was getting late and we had to wait a while for the free bus to come. We decided to grab lunch at one of the restaurants there that had terrace dining.
The bus stop is right in from of this monument. There is a button in the middle, that when you push it plays a song that you can sing to with the lyrics that are shown there.
After that, we cycled back down the hill to return our bicycles.
This island is really a nice place for people who enjoy art as there are so many areas where you can enjoy and appreciate beautiful art.
As there was still some time left till the ferry leaves, we went to take some pictures with the Red Pumpkin.
For our return trip, as we are taking a big ferry, it only costs 520 JPY per person.
We can even go onto the roof, but as it was windy and hot, we did not stay long.
The seat inside is a lot more comfortable.
After arriving at Takamatsu, we took a slow walk back to our hotel.
After arriving back at the hotel, we cooled ourselves down in the Lounge with some desserts and tea. :)
