Jigokudani (Hell Valley) 登別地獄谷

After lunch, we continued with our drive.

Driving in Hokkaido is not easy as the speed limit is so low. But at some areas, the roads are pretty curvy so that helps to keep you awake.

The drive to Jigokudani (Hell Valley) 登別地獄谷 was super busy. The road to the parking area was jammed up as cars can only move when people leave and cars exit the car park.

We were pretty close to giving up as the traffic was really not moving for about an hour. But we decided to stay on.

There are a few paths that one can take to explore the area. You can even hike. We decide on the wooden path as we just wanted to see the Hell Valley.

There is a strong sulphur smell there.

Posing with the new touristy sign.

There was a nice guard there who helped us take these.

This map here shows the different route you can take and the time it takes to complete the route.

The water that comes out is hot so it's best to respect the signages.

The sun was super sunny that day and many pictures turned out like this, with our eyes barely open!

As with other onsen areas, the spring water will turn your 1 yen coin black.

After that, we went up a small hill to the original sign board which existed before they built the big touristy version.

It's definitely a nice stop, to see a different view of nature which we don't get to see that often.
