Eating Japan -Bread series 6

1. Cocofrans apple pie

Highly recommended for those who likes apple desserts. One of the best I've had.

2. Family mart roll cake in vanilla cream

Bought this for my students' filming and this was the left over roll, so I had this as snack!

3. Baked cheese tart

Convenient stores in Japan surprisingly has good desserts and this is one of them.

4. Baked danish from Aeon

Thanks for Miss P who bought this for me. I had the entire thing during tea break.

5. Limited edition sakura tart

First time trying a sakura tart and this was good as the sakura wasn't too salty. I particularly liked the base.

6. Pasco tuna tartar sauce donut

Can't go wrong with tuna tartar and it was good.

7. Seijoishi Original Premium cheesecake

This is really good cheese cake. I love the fruit in it, cheese layer and the crumble. Will definitely wanna get this again.

8. Yamasaki eggs benedict bread

An interesting limited edition bread. The taste was ok. 

9. Yamasaki melon croissant

It's like a croissant with a melon pan outer later and chocolate on the insides. Can't go wrong with this combination.

10. Doughnut plant New York

Bought this for Jas to try while we were queuing for her JR tickets.

This doughnut here is really good. Love the strong green tea flavour~

Bistro Regato, Shinjuku

 Went for lunch with Mish one weekend in Shinjuku, at ビストロレガート-Bistro Regato

I booked this course meal online and while it's cheap, the quality is not as good as others. Nonetheless, the good was good. 

We started with a huge bowl of Caesar salad which was good but a tad too much dressing. Then we had a plate of vegetable sticks which dressing was so yummy that Mish ordered a second plate. 

Next came the cheese fondue which was ok. I think it would be better if the ingredients were of better quality. 

There were also fries and fried chicken. Fries were kinda addictive while you're chit chatting with friends, so we ordered a second too.

After all that, we had a huge plate of aglio olio.

And to end the meal, desserts! 

Nihonbashi

Early morning, I had a English and Japanese language exchange with A san and her friends. 

We were having it in Soup Stock, Nihonbashi. This is the first time I'm trying this and the soup itself is actually quite filling. The taste is good and I figure that this makes a really good comfort food on a cold day.

After that, I met up with my friend and we went for an impromptu cruise ride at Nihonbashi.

The 45 min Nihonbashi cruise costs 1500yen while the 60 min cruise costs 2000yen.

If I remembered correctly, we went on the 1pm 45 min cruise.

The boat that we boarded does not have a roof but they provided hats for anyone who needed them. 

It was nice to look at Nihonbashi from a different point of view. 

It was nice because of the cool breeze.

The Nihonbashi bridge has some very nice structures. 

After that, we went exploring in some of the malls there. 

It was interesting to see such a huge sculpture in Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi.

While we were there, there was an organ performance too! That was really nice! 

After that, we had early dinner at a Singapore Hainanese Chicken rice shop in Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower store.

We both ordered a chicken rice set which came with a mini bowl of laksa. The chicken rice was really good actually. I ordered the half steam and half fried chicken.  I like the rice more compared to the laksa as I felt that the laksa had too much coconut milk in it.

We continued our exploration afterwards and walked into this interesting place.  I never knew that there was a shrine smacked right in the middle of all the tall buildings in Nihonbashi. 

We were also extremely lucky to pass by this store selling Japanese pancakes as it was their last day of operation there. 

Spotted some pretty blue hydrangeas on the way back and had to snap this pic. 

Ebisu beer museum & L'IGNIS

First visit at the Museum of Yebisu beer.

They serve interesting beers there. I think this would be an interesting place for dad. 

After that, we went to an area behind the museum and spotted these beautiful purple flowers.

Moving on, we went into a nice little garden that belonged to a hotel nearby.  The place was slightly hidden and I definitely would not have known that there's was a garden there.

It makes sense that the garden is so pretty because this garden is the main view from the hotel's tea room. 

Beautiful hydrangeas as the weather starts to get hot.

For dinner, we went to L'IGNIS (リグニス) which was lovely. I love the interior of the restaurant and the food was good. Not to mention that service was impeccable too.

To start off, I ordered the lemoncello cocktail (650yen).

Here we had the charcuterie platter with coppa, chorizo, speck, liver mousse and pate de champagne for 1500yen. I'm not a huge fan of this but it was definitely interesting to this out. I never really liked liver mousse in general but I loved the spiced cookies that they served with the liver mousse. 

For our main, we had the homemade dry-aged beef steak sirloin which costs 5000yen/150g. If not mistaken we ordered a 200g portion and paired that with a grilled abalone mushroom for 500yen a piece. We also added a side of firewood flavoured mashed potatoes for 600yen.

It was the first time I tried such a premium steak and it was the best I've ever had. Everything oon that plate was delicious! The abalone mushroom was meaty and juicy. Even the mashed potatoes were the best that I've had! They had such a deep and complex flavour to it! And how did they even infused the wood burning flavour into it?!

For desserts, I had had the today's tart with homemade raspberry ice cream (900yen). A great way to end the dinner because the desserts were in point too!

This was one of the most expensive dinner I've had in Tokyo.

Definitely a place that's worth visiting for a special occasion! And I would definitely wanna visit this place again too!

Ebisu Ore no Bakery&Cafe & Photography Museum

Went for lunch at 俺のBakery&Cafe before heading to the photography museum.

This is the first time I've visited one of their branch. I know that they have an Italian and a yakiniku restaurant. 

The one in top is the steak sandwich and the one at the bottom is my crab and egg sandwich.

Overall, the taste is good but I guess the next time I visit, I'm going to order something that looks a little fancier.

There was a flea market on health food going on at Ebisu when we were there so we went to check it out and spotted some pretty flowers. 

This building here is apparently very famous because of the drama boys over flowers. Many couples get their wedding pictures taken here.

This beautiful view of Tokyo Tower was taken from Yebisu garden palace tower which had a free observatory.
