J's hometown

Early morning and J's dad already bought us food from the morning market.

Local favourites that we cannot get in Japan! Love the fried fritters and nasi lemak.

There's even this nasi lamak udang which I have never tried before.

For brunch, we went to this food court which serves J's favourite mee Jawa.

Meanwhile, I had the bbq pork rice.

Even managed to stuff into 2 apom balik for dessert.

After that, J's dad drove us to town for more desserts! Cendol~

We also dropped by to visit his old school.

After that we went to the to check out the mangrove area. In front of the entrance is the dome-shaped thing that people used to make coal back in the days.

I haven't seen one of these since I was a student in Brunei.

Kinda looks like Brunei's Kampong Ayer actually.

After that, it was time for more food. This time we went to a place that is famous for their asam laksa.

Was very happy to see cucur udang and curry puff too, so that I can check them off my list.

This place is acually famous for their assam laksa which was cheap and yummy.

After that, we went to the kampong where I was introduced to this fruit called the nipah.

It's interesting as I've never seen it before.

You cut the branch and then attach a plastic to it to collect the sap.

The sap looks clear like this and tastes super sweet!

The view there is great too~

We each enjoyed a cup of nice cold air nipah before leaving. Apparently, this sap, if not frozen immediately becomes vigenar. Hence, they will freeze it to preserve the sweet taste.

After that, we went to visit the archaeology museum.

Later that night, we grabbed dinner with the family~ :D

And this wraps up our jam packed day in Kedah!
